Spotlight on GPSit

This week Farmbase put our spotlight on GPSit, who shared with us how their customised maps and GIS solutions can help you get on the right track with your Farm Environment Plan.

What can you help people with?

GPSit are New Zealand’s farm and orchard mapping experts. For over 20 years, we have helped thousands manage their land more efficiently by providing customised maps and GIS solutions to the highest degree of accuracy possible.

Our mapping team will capture a view of your entire property from blocks, buildings, troughs, waterways, fences, hazards, to entries, exits, and more. Your farm map will support the decisions you make every day, and will add value across your entire business from planning and recording, to compliance, and health & safety.

On top of producing customisable maps, GPSit can also your maps in a range of sizes and styles, including large whiteboards, tear-off paper pads, and wall banners - perfect for the office or shed.

 What's your company's story?

GPSit’s founder, Matt Flowerday, has always aspired to find better, easier ways of doing things even as a young man on his family’s kiwifruit orchards. So, with his curiosity, Kiwi ingenuity and a GPS unit, Matt began mapping orchards and farms - resulting in the development of GPSit in 1998.

As the demand for mapping grew, Matt acquired staff, systems, and technology that saw his business expand. GPSit has mapped widely across New Zealand and for agricultural powerhouses including Zespri and Fonterra. Our field team is rooted deeply from the primary sector, so you can rest assured that your farm map is in good hands.

What big challenges/opportunities do you see for 2022?

Farm Environment Plans (FEPs) are currently a hot topic, with all farms in the primary sector required to have one within the next few years.
With a farm map being one of the first steps in creating an effective FEP, our customisable, high-quality maps will provide you with a strong foundation to build your property’s farm plan.

What’s a day in the life like of a GPSit mapping team member?

Our team feels pretty lucky to be able to work in amazing locations across the country. GPSit is based in Tauranga, so when the team aren’t mapping properties around Aotearoa, they are making the most of what the beautiful Bay of Plenty has to offer.

Our team loves the job they do, and most importantly, who they do it with. Whether it be starting the day with a coffee, or winding down with a beer at the end of the week, the team have each other's back.

GPSit also has a sister company, Landkind, which is a land management platform for the primary sector, providing data-based solutions for sustainable farming.
Between the two businesses we certainly keep busy!
